Road Trip - Day 1

This summer, we decided to make a road trip. The very first one in our life.

It was great! The idea came in pieces.

First, I bought maps of Lake Tahoe and The Grand Canyon - months before. The Grand Canyon one seemed to be more interesting, we've spent some time thinking about which part we should visit, where we should camp and hike. But in the end we just folded it back and put it away.

Then my friend Jenn and her fiancée decided to get married in South Lake Tahoe in the summer. We were lucky enough to be invited, so at least to Lake Tahoe we'll drive. Alright. What about coming home with some detour, we thought. :) And so we did, we came home with quite a detour.

It took some time to figure out where to sleep each night, what to visit and what to skip, and some parts of the trip we just figured out on the road or in the motel we were staying at. The important influencing factor - besides the National Parks and Monuments - in planning our route was Guy Fieri and his show on Food Network: Diners, Dive-ins and Dives. It was a good decision - we probably would have survived the two weeks on Subway sandwiches and Chipotle burritos, but we both like the non-chain places. These were really fun and serving tasty food for a good price, too.

We started on a Wednesday (the wedding was on Thursday), on July 21st. It was a slow start - gas station, quick car wash then the traffic jams. But after some time, we left the Bay Area and we were driving. Well, only my husband, I was the passenger. Actually, for the most of the trip - I didn't mind it, this way I could talk as much as I wanted and enjoy the landscape. We saw really beautiful places!

Our first stop was Jamie's Grille in Sacramento. Yes, one of Guy's places, which we would have never found otherwise. It totally doesn't look like a restaurant at all. Inside, it was packed and lovely - somewhat like an Irish pub where food is served. We got a tiny two-person table and after ordering, two huge sandwiches. Well, four altogether, as both of us got two - we forgot to order half-size. Oh well. We fought and and won: the sandwiches were gone in some time.

Then back to the car and to South Lake Tahoe. We arrived quite late and quite tired. South Lake Tahoe was really cute - like some fairy-tale village. The houses looked like big gingerbread houses at Christmas. Which was rather weird, as it was summertime and hot weather. We found our motel, got our room and went to sleep quickly.

Mindjart indulunk

Megyunk Road Trip-re, azaz autos kirandulasra. Elso allomasunk Lake Tahoe (Taho to) ahol Jennifer baratnomnek lesz az eskuvoje. Ez adta az apropot, hogy ha mar odaig eljutunk, miert nem megyunk tovabb? Igy is lett, szepen kitalaltuk, hogy bejarjuk a kornyeket. Az utvonal kb. South Lake Tahoe - Salt Lake City - nehany National Park - Grand Canyon - Las Vegas - es haza. Szallasaink hellyel-kozzel vannak, majd ahol elfaradtunk, ott megallunk es keresunk valamit. Viszont remek otleteink vannak, hogy hol fogunk ebedelni/vacsorazni, attol fuggoen, hogy mikor erunk hova. Van itt a Food Network-on egy kedvelt musorunk: Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Egy fazon jarja a sportos kis cabrio-javal az orszagot, es ahol izgalmas, egyedi kajaldara talal (semmi draga, sot!) arrol keszit riportot. Van hozza terkep is, hogy hol vannak az altala meglatogatott helyek - mi is szepen bejeloltuk, ami utunkba esik. Majd utolag jonnek kepek es beszamolo az utrol.

Csillagpartin

Igen, igen, tudom. Azt igertem majd irok gyakran, aztan tessek, megint tobb, mint egy honap telt el utolso bejegyzesem ota. Elfoglalt vagyok, no. :) Meg igy nyariszunetben is van neha mit tennem, eleinte peldaul nagyon lelkesen rendberaktam az irodat, az osszes aktat szepen elrendeztem.. Huh, a vegere mar nagyon untam. De most csinos es rendezett minden szekreny!

Voltunk kozben GSSP-nek nevezett nagy Csillagpartin. Fent voltunk California eszaki reszen, Adin mellett nem sokkal egy farmon. A GSSP rendezvenyt par eve rendezik amator csillagaszok szamara. Nappal kempingezes, ejjel csillagnezes. Na jo, ez persze nem ilyen egyszeru. Ejjel 2-4 kozott azert eltunik az emberek nagy resze aludni. Es nappal sem olyan szimplan kempingezunk, inkabb csak tikkadunk a hosegben, probaljuk megszokni az allandoan es erosen fujo szelet es varjuk az estet.

Adin tolunk kb. 5 ora vezetesnyire van, megallasokkal es macskaleadassal egyutt bo 6 ora volt az ut nekunk. Megerkeztunk, kipakoltunk, majd realizaltuk, hogy a kempingezeshez nem hoztunk satrat. Az elso terv az volt, hogy atvirrasztjuk az ejszakat. A masodik, ami meg is valosult, hogy alszunk a szabad eg alatt. Halozsakunk meg jo vastag polifoam-unk volt, ugyhogy nem volt teljesen katasztrofalis a helyzet. En remekul aludtam, parom kevesbe, ot jobban nyomtak a gorongyok a foldon.

Masnap reggel kimasztunk a halozsakbol, osszeszedtuk magunkat es reggeliztunk. Szepen megteritettunk a kemping etkeszlettel es a BBQ tanyeralatetekkel. Igen hangulatos kis reggelink volt. Aztan elmentunk satrat venni. Vasarnap van, ez fontos. A helyi mindenes boltban sajnos pont a multheten elfogyott a sator, ugyhogy be kellett menni a kovetkezo varosba, ami 40 merfoldre volt. Ott talaltunk egyetlen boltot, ahol volt meg eppen egy sator a polcon - nem sokat valogattunk, azt elhoztuk. Felvertuk. Aztan kiprobaltuk. Jo volt. :)

Aztan a delutan eltelt szep lassan. Vacsora elott tusoltunk! Igen, ugyanis nem csak toi-toi WC-ket hoztak nekunk, hanem mobil kezmoso es tusolo is volt. Egy nagy kamion atepitve ugy, hogy volt benne vagy 8 kis tusolofulke. Remek volt, nagyon birtuk. Este aztan BBQ vacsora volt. A szombat estit lekestuk, de a mai is finom volt. A helyi (itt a farmon legeltetett) marhakbol keszitettek minden este vacsorat nekunk. Mivel sajnos nem regisztraltunk elore, itt kellett helyben megvennunk a hami-jegyet, de szerencsere jutott nekunk. Finomat ettunk. Aztan jottek a csillagok. Osszeismerkedtunk a satorszomszedjainkkal is, egy masik fiatal parral. Helyesek voltak, Oregonban laknak.

Aztan amikor en mar faztam es almos voltam, osszeszedtuk a kis alkatreszeket, letakartuk a teleszkopokat es eltuntunk aludni. Nem tul sokaig, mert reggel a nap igen erosen nekiallt sutni. Nem csak vilagos volt, a sator is katlanna valtozott igen gyorsan, ugyhogy szinte menekultunk belole. :) A program napkozben hasonlo mint elozo nap, leszamitva a satorvasarlast. Attengodtuk a napot, vacsorara ujra BBQ, aztan megint csillagok, es ejjel alvas. Kedden satorszomszedainkkal bementunk a faluba fagyizni. Vanilia fagyit ettunk - nem volt mas valasztek. Adin nagyon aranyos kis falu, roppant kedves emberekkel. Nagyon erdekes volt latni az amerikai videket!

Aztan szerda reggel osszecsomagoltunk, mindent visszaoperaltunk az autoba, es elindultunk haza. Az ut nem lett rovidebb, viszont nagyreszt en vezettem. Mint Balinttal megallapitottuk, ez elofordul velunk: o elviszi az autot valahova, en meg hazahozom. :) Szoktunk igy jarni egy-egy csillagparti utan, reggel en szoktam a frissebb lenni. Ugyhogy mar egesz joban vagyok a Cadillac-kel is.
